Why say goodbye to summer when you can extend it? Plan a fall exchange vacation in a warm locale, like Phoenix, Arizona or Palm Springs, California through RCI.
During the fall, Phoenix’s temperatures range from 61 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit, making it a comfortably warm autumn escape. The capital of Arizona is known for its dry climate and is a perfect destination for those seeking to hold onto the summer’s sun a bit longer. Head to Papago Park, which covers 1,200 acres and is home to the Phoenix Zoo, Desert Botanical Garden, fishing lagoons, wildlife trails and a golf course.
You can also make the most of long, sunny days without the summer heat by hiking Camelback Mountain, offering 2,705-foot high views of Phoenix and Scottsdale, in the fall. Take a day trip to Scottsdale to tour Frank Lloyd Wright’s former home and architectural school, Taliesin West, located in the McDowell Mountains’ foothills. Choose from among several tours to see the indoor and outdoor spaces at Taliesin West. Grab some tasty Mexican food at Mission, an actual former mission converted into a restaurant, and then watch the Arizona sun set over the dessert.
Travel like a movie star and head to Palm Springs this autumn. A frequent getaway for those who work in Hollywood, this Southern California escape is an amazing autumn retreat, with average mean temperatures ranging from 64 to 76 degrees Fahrenheit during October and November. If you like to hit the green, you can head to Indian Wells Golf Resort. The 36-hole resort’s Celebrity Course is a two-time host to the PGA TOUR’s Skins Game, and the Players Course highlights breathtaking views of the San Jacinto, Santa Rosa and San Bernardino mountain ranges, with Eisenhower Mountain to the south.
Enjoy a day at Sunnylands Center and Gardens, which is free and open to the public Thursday through Sunday. See modernist art and learn about the midcentury estate, which was the winter home of philanthropists Walter and Leonore Annenberg. Stroll along the center’s 1.25-mile walking path, which will take you through beautiful gardens that were inspired by the Vincent van Gogh painting Olive Trees.
