Roller Coaster Ready
Are you spending part of your summer getaway thrill-seeking at theme parks? Make sure to pack a plastic zipper bag to protect your phone from getting wet on those wilder rides.
If you’re beach-bound, in addition to bringing a plastic zipper bag to keep your electronics dry, also pack a large tote bag that zips. Inside, you can store all your beach day necessities while ensuring they stay sand-free. You’ll also want to throw in lip balm, sunscreen and other essential items. Read more packing tips for ocean trips on Club Traveler.
If you want to avoid waiting at a busy airport carousel for checked bags on your way to or from your destination, consider carrying one of these bags and skipping the carousel, and fees associated with checked luggage, altogether. Speaking of cutting, and preparing, for wait times, check out the following apps.
Know When You’ll Wait
Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial beginning of summer, is just around the corner. It’s the first of several busy travel weekends coming up, including the Fourth of July and Labor Day. Savvy travelers can take advantage of MyTSA, the Transportation Security Administration’s free travel app that reports estimated wait times at airports, provides weather information and more. MyTSA can help you gauge whether you need to leave early so that you can make it through security in time to take off toward your summer getaway.
Gamify Your Guide
Download Sidekix, an app dedicated to helping you explore new, unfamiliar places not as a tourist but like a local. This app uses GPS to provide a guided map of your destination. Sidekix highlights what to see and where to eat using information provided by bloggers with neighborly knowledge. With summer weather on your side, take advantage of the app’s walking routes based on interests such as its gallery hop, a pub crawl, shopping guide and more.
