On May 23, Hilton Grand Vacations celebrated the grand opening of its first property in the capital: The District by Hilton Club. Appropriately named The District, the property is in the center of the city, located conveniently between Georgetown and Dupont Circle and near tons of dining, shopping, memorials, monuments and museums.
The grand opening kicked off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, which included remarks by Mark Wang, president and CEO of Hilton Grand Vacations, and a Champagne toast. But the celebration didn’t end there; Team Members led a variety of festivities for Club Members throughout the week, including happy hours and walking tours.
Club Members and Team Members gather for the official ribbon cutting at The District.
Two such Club Members were Coleen and Brian P., who coincidentally were staying at The District during the property’s grand opening week. The couple’s been a part of Hilton Grand Vacations Club for the past decade, first owning at Hilton Grand Vacations Club at SeaWorld in Orlando, Florida, followed by Hilton Grand Vacations Club on the Boulevard in Las Vegas; they recently moved their home property to The District.
Club Traveler caught up with Coleen after the event, and here’s what she had to say:
“We live in Florida but work in Washington, D.C.,” says Coleen, adding that she and her husband just started a lobbying firm. Coleen is also in the cast of a television show that films just north of the District of Columbia, in Maryland. “Now we are part of The District ownership, which makes sense because we are part time in D.C. and we have people visit, too.”
From visiting clients to spending time with family members, Coleen says, “with The District, we’ve been able to use our membership a lot already.”
“The convenience, for sure. It really is in a convenient location between Georgetown and Dupont Circle. The rooms are great; they are very spacious, and the bed was really comfortable,” Coleen says. “There’s also free breakfast every morning with an omelet station; it’s the whole nine yards. And every night there’s an evening reception with free drinks and snacks.”
During the grand opening festivities, Coleen met several Team Members including HGV President and CEO Mark Wang, as well as Eric MacMartin, club director at The District.
“Eric was very helpful, and he’s been helpful the last couple of months. He makes sure that we’ve been taken care of,” Coleen says.

In addition to attending the ribbon-cutting, where she enjoyed the Champagne toast and cake celebration, Coleen says she and Brian also took advantage of the neighborhood restaurant gift cards Hilton Grand Vacations shared with Club Members.
The gift cards were a part of Elevated Rewards, an exclusive benefit program available to Owners at Hilton Club properties. Coleen and Brian used their gift card at Teddy & the Bully Bar. Known for its cocktails and campfire steaks, the popular restaurant just south of Dupont Circle is named after Teddy Roosevelt, who once lived across the street.
Coleen says she and Brian want to go to Europe, specifically Italy, and stay at Hilton Grand Vacations Club at Borgo alle Vigne. “We would really like to go there, or Hawaii,” she says.
Embedded in the Embassy Suites by Hilton, The District by Hilton Club boasts 96 newly renovated one-bedroom suites and 12 two-bedroom suites. Amenities include access to the property’s fitness center, heated indoor pool, restaurant and bar, business center, video arcade and grab-and-go market as well as a private Owners’ lounge (expected to open in March 2018).
