Bring your beloved seasonal traditions to your vacation home, and try one or two new ones, like the irresistible and simple on-the-go recipes we’ve detailed in this article. In fact, you don’t need many ingredients, or even a turkey, to tap into delicious fall flavors. Skip the stress of cooking a turkey and arrange to pick up one that has been cooked for you. Or pre-order a honey-baked ham and some easy-bake biscuits for delivery. With that taken care of, you can then focus on making fun and flavorful sides and sweets for the big meal.
Helpful tip: Pack plastic bags or stackable containers if you plan to bring home or keep leftovers
What to Make:
Start with this recipe for a Cranberry Orange Sauce that requires only three ingredients and some water:
Ingredients:
- ¼ cup freshly squeezed orange juice and zest of one orange (these both can be accomplished with just one orange)
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 12-ounce bag of cranberries
How to Make It:
- Combine juice, zest and sugar along with ¾ cup of water and mix together in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally and cook until the sugar has dissolved.
- Stir in cranberries and bring mix to a boil. Reduce heat and let the mix simmer until thickened, about 15 minutes.
- Cool before serving. Voila, you’re done!
Green Bean Casserole is another classic dish for the November holiday. It’s easy to make at home or in your HGV kitchen or kitchenette.
Ingredients:
- 2 14.5-ounce cans french-style green beans, drained
- 1 18-ounce can creamy mushroom soup
- 6 ounces french-fried onions
How to Make It:
- Heat oven to 350 degrees.
- In a casserole or baking dish, combine green beans, soup and half of the french-fried onions. Mix well.
- Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until the mixture is bubbling. During the last five minutes of bake time, sprinkle the remaining half of the french-fried onions over the dish.
Top Thanksgiving off with a classic, but with an autumn twist. Get the whole family involved in making these Rice Crispy Treat Pumpkins, which inspired the recipe below, for an adorable, and sweet, meal’s end.
Ingredients:
- ¼ cup butter
- 1 bag large marshmallows (about 40 marshmallows; use orange marshmallows if available, or buy white marshmallows and add red and yellow food dye to create an orange color when mixing the butter and marshmallows over your stovetop)
- 4-6 cups Rice Krispies
- Mini Rolos
- Green M&Ms
How to Make It:
Follow your favorite rice crispy treat recipe or use the steps below:
- Melt butter in a pot over low heat.
- Mix in marshmallows until melted, and combine with butter.
- Take mix off the stove. If using white marshmallows, mix in four drops of red and 12 drops of yellow food coloring (or adjust to reach your desired orange).
- Next, add Rice Krispies and stir until combined.
- Roll the mix into small balls. (To avoid sticking, coat your hands in cooking oil.)
- While still warm, place a mini Rolo at the top of each ball to symbolize the pumpkin’s stem and a green M&M next to the Rolo to represent a leaf.
- Allow to cool.
