Situated among the San Juan Mountains and San Juan National Forest, Pagosa Springs beckons travelers seeking relaxation and thrills alike to Colorado’s slice of the Sun Belt for a winter escape.
Pagosa is home to the deepest hot springs in the world, and for centuries people have flocked to reap the benefits associated with these waters. Full of natural minerals, Pagosa’s hot springs are said to have rejuvenating and therapeutic benefits: tissue repair, improved circulation and, of course, relaxation. In fact, the Southern Ute tribes used these waters for medicinal purposes for hundreds of years and called them “Pag-Osah,” which means “healing waters.”

With 23 mineral hot springs and more than 300 days of sunshine a year, it’s easy to see why this Colorado gem attracts visitors year-round. But in winter, Pagosa is even more enchanting covered in a blanket of powder-white snow. Receiving more snow than anywhere else in the state, Pagosa collects more than 450 inches annually and turns into a perfect winter playground for skiers, snowboarders and other winter sports enthusiasts. In addition to traditional winter mountain sports, families can enjoy tubing, sledding, or ice skating on the ponds behind River Center. Other winter activities include sleigh rides and ice fishing.

And if you find yourself a wee bit cold after a day on the mountain, warm up in one of the many hot springs and “pools with a view.”
